BACKGROUND OF PROGRAM

The NTC is an annual educational programme organised by the National Orthopaedic Centre of Excellence for Research and Learning (NOCERAL), Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya. The course was developed to address the increasing need for comprehensive trauma training among orthopaedic medical officers and trainees. This course will be conducted over three days and will cover the management of common upper and lower limb fractures through lectures, case-based discussions, saw bone workshops, and cadaveric surgical training. Topics include fractures of the proximal femur, distal femur, tibial plateau, ankle, clavicle, proximal humerus, elbow, distal radius, pelvis, and trauma principles such as ATLS and damage control orthopaedics.

The cadaveric sessions provide participants with valuable hands-on surgical experience in a supervised learning environment, thereby bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and clinical practice.

OBJECTIVE OF THE PROGRAM

• To enhance participant's knowledge of contemporary principles and advances in orthopaedic trauma management.
• To improve clinical decision-making skills through interactive case discussions on common trauma conditions.
• To develop technical competence in fracture fixation techniques through saw bone workshops.
• To provide hands-on cadaveric training in upper and lower limb trauma surgical approaches and fixation methods.
• To promote safe, evidence-based, and effective trauma care among orthopaedic practitioners.
