As the largest country in Southeast Asia, and with unique geograpical challenges, the need for an extensive pool of professional engineers in Indonesia is more urgent than ever. As established by the International Engineering Alliance, a solid framework for engineering education is the prerequisite for a country to obtain mutual recognition of the competence – and ultimately the cross-border mobility – of its corps of engineers. To contribute to this engineering education framework, and to foster the improvement of engineering academic programs in Indonesia, the Indonesian Accreditation Board for Engineering Education (IABEE) is established under the Institute of Engineers Indonesia (PII). IABEE is an accrediting body for outcome-based undergraduate academic engineering programs leading to professional practice. Under sponsorship of JABEE and ABET, IABEE has been granted Provisional Status by the Washington Accord in July 2019, and is poised to apply for the Signatory Status as soon as possible, namely in 2021.
