Ir. Tengku Kahar Muzaffar Bin Tengku Mohd Yusof Anuar,

Vice President, Strategy and Special Projects Office, NanoMalaysia Bhd

Ir. Tengku Kahar was appointed as Vice President, Strategy and Special Projects Office in May 2022. Prior to joining NanoMalaysia, he was with the Ministry of Transport in the Strategic Planning and International Division, transferred after the dissolution of the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) in 2018. In SPAD, he held the position as the Head of Macro Policy and Contracting Unit, where he pioneered planning for large scale electric buses, under the Government’s Stage Bus Services Transformation Programme. Prior to SPAD, he headed a practice called TESED (Technology Enabling Services for Economic Development) in MSC Technology Centre Sdn. Bhd., once a subsidiary of MDEC (Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation), and secured local and international projects related to digitisation and economic development linked with real estate. Previous work engagements include various portfolios in regulations (MDEC), construction (Projass Engineering Sdn. Bhd.) and maintenance (Petronas). Ir. Tengku Kahar is a Professional Engineer and a Project Management Professional.

Mr. Huzaimi Omar (COO Green EV Charge Sdn Bhd)

Expertise: Sustainable mobility, Electric Vehicles

Biography:

A firm believer and proponent of low carbon mobility, Huzaimi Nor Omar is highly regarded as an industry expert pioneering in electric vehicles (EV) and electric charging infrastructure (EVI). In 2002, he joined PROTON Berhad as Cost Engineer and was later seconded to Group Lotus PLC UK prior to being promoted as Head of Sourcing and Development under Green Technology for PROTON’s vehicle electrification programme. In 2013, he explored EVI network development in support of Nissan Leaf roll out in Malaysia under the First Energy Networks Sdn Bhd as Business Development Manager and subsequently overseeing Renault Zoe and Twizy EV product line-up as Product Manager under TC Euro Cars, a subsidiary of Tan Chong Motors Berhad. In 2016, he was called to helm Head of Mobility position and later Senior Director under Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC). In his capacity, he has successfully installed 235 public charging infrastructure under the Driving Efficient Electricity Demand Growth project and played an instrumental role in the immensely successful implementation of Global Environment Facility (GEF) USD2 million-grant-project on Energy Efficient Low-carbon Transport in 2015-2020 before securing another USD1.7 million in 2022. He was the architect and project director for Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint development and later managed the Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint (LCMB) 2021-2030 implementation under the 12th Malaysia Plan. He built strong connections between the industry and policy communities at national level with a focus on clean energy and sustainable transportation. With his vast experience and hands-on knowledge on EV, Huzaimi is sought after nationally and internationally, having written numerous opinion articles, contributed in international reports such as Global EV Outlook by International Energy Agency and invited as a speaker at multiple platforms locally and internationally. He’s also the Chair and member of National Standards Committee on EV Charging and Energy Storage System. Huzaimi holds B.Sc Engineering (Mechanical) from the Vanderbilt University USA and a member of MENSA, and is currently the Chief Operating Officer of Green EV Charge Sdn Bhd. His aim today is to advance the EV Charging Infrastructure in Malaysia and to retain chargEV as the most prominent EV Infra in Malaysia while expanding it with inclusiveness, reliability, high speed and digitalized. 

Abstract:

Ever since LCMB was published in late 2021, the electric vehicles landscape in Malaysia had started to take shape. Several key incentives had been announced for two consecutive years of 2022 and 2023. The uptake had increased tremendously for 2022 and we are expecting much bigger number for 2023. Important part to notes is that the policy had driven the industry to take charge on rolling out the vehicles and also EV Charging Infrastructure in Malaysia. The presentation is summarizing the policy progress and showing some of the key example of industry push towards realizing the vehicle electrification target for Malaysia.
