ABOUT THE SYMPOSIUM

The Greening the Future of Healthcare in ASEAN research symposium, supported by the ASEAN Medical Schools Network (AMSN), aims to address the growing importance of sustainable healthcare practices across the ASEAN region. As healthcare institutions advance in environmental responsibility, this symposium will showcase initiatives designed to reduce the environmental impact of healthcare while improving healthcare delivery.

Hosted in collaboration with GREEN@UMHealth, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti of Malaya, the Centre for Sustainable Medicine at the National University of Singapore (NUS), and the Faculty of Medicine at Universitas Indonesia (UI), the event will provide a platform for healthcare leaders, policymakers, academic researchers, and medical students to share knowledge, engage in discussions, and explore real-world examples of sustainable healthcare practices.

Through a mix of lectures, panel discussions, workshops, and networking opportunities, the symposium will focus on:

  1. Basic principles of sustainable healthcare, including carbon analytics, circular economy, and sustainable procurement.
  2. Greener healthcare practices with case studies of successful green initiatives in ASEAN healthcare institutions.
  3. Capacity building to increase awareness of sustainable practices among healthcare professionals.

The symposium will also explore the challenges facing the region, such as low carbon literacy, disparities in healthcare infrastructure, and funding gaps, while promoting public-private collaborations for a more sustainable healthcare future.

Participants will have the opportunity to contribute to the establishment of a research and action network aimed at fostering ongoing collaboration and knowledge-sharing in sustainable healthcare across ASEAN.
