The Department of Southeast Asian Studies, the organiser of the conference, has a tradition of organising this conference entitled International Conference on Southeast Asia with its signature acronym ICONSEA. Therefore, the Department proposes to organise this bi-annual event this year despite the difficult times owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. The proposed dates for the event is from the 2^nd to 3^rd December 2021 (plenary and paper presentation) and 4^th December 2021 (post-conference workshop, selected participants need to register). It will be held virtually through an online conference platform and managed physically by the staff of the Department of Southeast Asian Studies and the collaborators from all over the world, as well as the staff of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, University of Malaya with the main theme “Southeast Asia in the New Normal”.
