Professor Dr. Richard Fitzgerald

Richard Fitzgerald is Professor of Communication at the University of Macau. Prior to joining UMAC he has held posts at the University of Queensland, Australia, Brunel University and Cardiff University in the UK. Professor Fitzgerald has a BA (hons) and PhD in Sociology from the University of Wales, UK. His research is in the areas of language and social interaction, media discourse and methods of discourse analysis. His two main areas of research are discourse analysis research methodologies and the ethnomethodolgical approach of Membership Categorisation Analysis. He has published over 70 journal articles and book chapters, edited 5 books and 4 journal special issues. His recent publications include Advances in Membership Categorisation Analysis (2015) Sage with W. Housley and co-edited a special issue of the Journal of Pragmatics (2017) with W. Housley and S. Rintel entitled Membership Categorisation Analysis; Technologies of Social Action. He has also published widely in Critical Discourse Analysis, his most recent work Putting Philosophy Back to work in Critical Discourse Analysis, co-authored with N. Talib, was published in Critical Discourse Studies in 2018. His recent research focus is on the work and research methods of Harvey Sacks. He is currently completing a book, The Research and Methodology of Harvey Sacks (Taylor and Francis) to be published in 2019, as well as a co-edited collection On Sacks with R. Smith and W. Housley (Taylor and Francis) also in 2019. Professor Fitzgerald is the current Editor in Chief of the journal Discourse Context and Media (Elsevier).

 

Associate Professor Dr. Michele Lazar

Michelle Lazar is Associate Professor and Head of Department of English Language & Literature at the National University of Singapore.  With research interests in critical discourse analysis and multimodality, Michelle has published widely in the areas of gender, sexuality, media and politics. She was recipient of the 2018 IGALA Best Article Award for her research on the discourse of homonationalism in a global southern context.

 

 

 

Dr. John Knox

John S. Knox is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Linguistics at Macquarie University. He teaches primarily on the postgraduate programs in Applied Linguistics and TESOL. His research interests, research supervision, and publications are predominantly in the areas of multimodality, language in education, social semiotics, and mediated discourse, and he has published work in these areas in journals such as the Australian Journal of Teacher Education;Australian Review of Applied LinguisticsDiscourse and CommunicationDiscourse, Context and MediaDistance EducationJournalismSocial Semiotics; and Visual Communication. Dr Surinderpal Kaur A/p Chanan Singh is Senior Lecturer and Deputy Dean of Postgraduate Studies at the Faculty of Languages and Linguistics, University of Malaya. She specialises in critical discourse studies, gendered communication, and multimodality.
