Murali Srinivasan

Prof. Dr. Murali Srinivasan is the Clinic Director for General, Special Care, and Geriatric Dentistry at the University of Zurich, Switzerland. He obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Prosthodontics from India and later led the Department of Advanced Dentistry and Implantology at a renowned hospital in Dubai. He received the prestigious ITI Scholarship, which brought him to Geneva, where he later became a lecturer in Gerodontology and Removable Prosthodontics. He earned his Doctorate in Dental Medicine, a Master of Advanced Studies in Reconstructive Dentistry, and his Privat Docent from the University of Geneva. His research focuses on removable prosthodontics, implant-assisted prosthodontics, geriatric dentistry, dementia care, and CAD-CAM technology. A widely published researcher, Prof. Srinivasan has held leadership roles, including Head of the Centre for Dental Medicine at the University of Zurich and President of the European College of Gerodontology (ECG). He serves as President of the Swiss Society of Gerodontology and Special Care Dentistry (SSGS) and President-Elect of the Geriatric Oral Research Group (GORG) at IADR.
Lecture Topic: The ABCs of Managing Geriatric Oral Health Needs - Co-developing a Strategy
This lecture introduces the Assessment, Bespoke Care, and Collaboration framework for managing geriatric oral health. It addresses challenges like systemic diseases, polypharmacy, cognitive decline, and functional limitations. A thorough assessment helps identify risks and tailor treatment plans focusing on prevention, minimally invasive care, and adaptive strategies. Collaboration with healthcare providers, caregivers, and policymakers ensures holistic care, ethical decision-making, and better access to dental services. Financial and policy barriers are also discussed. By integrating evidence-based, patient-centered approaches, this session equips dental professionals with practical strategies to improve oral health and overall well-being in older adults.
